Chris Trueman graduated from the San Francisco Art Institute in 2003 with dual Bachelor of Fine Art degrees in Painting and Digital Media. The current body of work addresses several common dualities observed in news, mass media and popular culture: wonderment and ambivalence of natural phenomena, interconnectedness and solitude in communications, fear and hope in technology, temporality and timelessness. These works are postulations that explore the complexity of relationships between subjective experience and that mediated by television and the Internet. Images from pop culture, history and science are interwoven with rich layers of paint, pencil, ink and thread. These hybrid artworks blend collage and painting to produce a symbiosis between machine and man-made.
